The graduate team in the Office of the Registrar identifies eligible students and then works with deans, program directors and departments to enroll students in the summer courses they need to complete their degree in four years.
The program is open to students who started in the fall semester and attended Kean for four years – eight consecutive semesters – and need six to 14 credits to graduate after their final spring semester. A special $500 award, the Empowerment Scholarship, can benefit qualified students who need fewer than six credits to graduate.

John Simons of Cape May received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in August 2018. He credits the board of trustees with the program that changed his life last year when he realized he needed two more courses before he could join his friends.
“I couldn’t tell them I wasn’t going to celebrate our four years together,” Simons said. “Things only started to improve when the applicants told me about the Graduate Incentive program. I worked hard over the summer and completed two classes and graduated in four years. I now have a full-time job – in the field I studied in.”
The Graduation Team is currently seeking students who are eligible for the Graduation Incentive Program this year with the goal of surpassing last year’s success.
“Every extra year students spend in college takes a financial toll and delays their entry into the workforce,” Kean President Dawood Farahi said in a statement. “At Kean, we do everything we can to give students the support they need to succeed academically and the incentives to encourage them to graduate in four years.”
