I have a Sainsbury Bank credit card and have been working hard to pay off my debt since April this year. I have paid over £2k between now and then with the aim of improving my credit score to get a lower rate on my home improvement loan and reduce my car loan.

I recently tried to apply for a car finance deal (which will hopefully reduce my monthly payments by £60 a month!) but it was rejected.

I had checked my reports before I applied and I had good credit and thought that since I was paying off my debts I would be in a better place.

I then checked my detailed statements on a number of accounts (MSE Credit Club, Clear Score, Credit Karma and Total Money) and found that the remaining balance on my Sainsbury’s card remained at the figure posted in April.

I contacted Sainsbury’s bank to raise this to see if it was an admin error and they replied that due to CCID-19 they have not been able to update credit reports and they don’t know when they will be able to.

My question to you guys is is this okay or does it violate some law/convention that they have to provide updated information to the credit unions?

John Lewis Relaunches Partnership Reward Credit Card With New Day

I attached pictures from the interview and they wanted to give me a letter to take to the dealer if I wanted to buy the car, but it won’t carry any weight as it all goes through the credit systems. So right now I’m stuck with not being able to renew my existing financial obligations because my balance isn’t keeping up with the work I’ve done to renew it. Sainsbury’s has launched a new market-leading credit card with a low rate of 6.9 per cent APR.

The card, only available to Nectar card customers, has a fee-free transfer plan at the lowest price available for any card on the market.

That’s 1% lower than its closest competitor, Barclaycard Simple, which offers 7.9%, with applicants needing a minimum balance of £20,000.

Borrowers should aim to pay off their credit card every month, but since finances are tight, this doesn’t always happen.

Sainsbury’s To Slash Nectar Reward Points For Millions From November

Moneynet’s Andrew Hagger said: “With an APR of just 6.9 per cent, this card is a much cheaper way to manage your finances than to take a big plunge. Even if you can’t clear your balance in full every month, the interest won’t hit your wallet too hard.”

Applicants should also be aware that there is no guarantee that they will be offered the lowest 6.9 percent.

As of last year, credit card issuers were only required to offer 51 percent of successful applicants the advertised rate.

Tara Evans from This Money said: This card has the lowest rate on the market, so it would be great for anyone looking to make purchases that take a long time to pay off.

Obviously the cheapest way to pay this is to use a 0 percent card, but

Unlike many interest-free credit cards, this one has no transfer fee. The best option is to do the math yourself.

The 42-month deal is the longest ever offered by any lender, beating Virgin Money, Halifax and MBNA’s 41-month deal to a leading lender.

But the longer Sainsbury’s deal comes with a catch in the form of a four per cent charge on addresses transferred from an existing credit card for the first three months.

After three months, the fee drops to 3% of any balance transferred, with a £3 fee applied regardless of how much you transfer.

For the first three months, purchases made with the new Sainsbury’s card will attract zero per cent interest. It then shoots up to 18.95 percent.

Anyone interested in a new Sainsbury’s card should look no further as applications close on October 31. This deal is not open to existing Sainsbury’s Bank credit card holders.

Lenders are in a fierce battle to tempt new customers to apply for their cards. But like most things in life, quality, not quantity. No matter how long the zero percent deal lasts, it is worth looking into carefully.

Andrew Hagger of Moneycomms.co.uk said: “The 0% battle market rate shows no sign of slowing down, but buyers need to look beyond time – it’s the full price, including the off-payment fee and any incentives, that can often give you money it is important to save only to choose a month or two shorter than the longest period on the market.”

It pays to shop around for the best deal if you’re looking for a 0% rate transfer card Credit: Alamy

To take an example, with Sainsbury’s new 42-month contract, a £3,000 plan to pay off with four per cent single transport costs costs £120.

But with the 41-month Virgin Money card, which attracts a lower fee of 3.29 per cent of the amount being transferred, borrowers could be withdrawing £98.70 instead of £125.

Sainsbury’s To Use Amazon’s Just Walk Out Technology

With MBNA, borrowers can get a 41-month zero-percent balance transfer card by paying a one-time fee of 3.49 percent on the amount being transferred. But MBNA is also offering a £20 Amazon voucher with its deal, meaning customers would pay just £84.70 for a £3,000 delivery.

To get the best deal on a zero percent interest rate credit card, it pays to understand what your personal needs are.
