Two situations where you might want to use your smartphone to connect to a full-sized monitor, keyboard and mouse:

If your work or home computer dies, you can use a USB-C hub to connect your phone to a full-sized monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I use the AUKEY USB C Hub 12-in-1 Type C adapter, but you can choose from a variety of devices with different ports and price ranges.

I also use an $8 HDMI cable to connect the USB-C hub to the monitor. I plug my keyboard and mouse into the USB hub and now I’m working as fast and productive as I was on my desktop processor.
You can also use a monitor, keyboard and mouse while driving. In addition to packing a USB-C hub and HDMI cable, you’ll need to include a keyboard. What is pictured is a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard. Here’s one that folds up and can connect via Bluetooth or a USB cable. It also includes a touchpad if you prefer to leave the mouse at home. Many if not most hotel TVs have an HDMI port where you can plug the cable into your smartphone. If you need to do heavy multitasking on your Windows PC, a second monitor can do a lot of things. If you choose to “extend” your Windows desktop over a dual-monitor setup, it’s like having two computers side-by-side, with each monitor getting its own set of windows and programs that can be opened at the same time.
But a second monitor can be quite expensive and they are definitely not very portable if you want to use one with your laptop. That’s where Spacedesk comes in: it’s software that lets you easily turn any device into a second monitor for your Windows desktop. What’s more, it works via Wi-Fi, meaning there are no messy wires, so you’ll always be one click away from dual Windows screens wherever you are.
First, you need to install the Spacedesk drivers on your Windows computer. So go to the link below, you will notice the two versions listed below

Chapter. Most modern computers are 64-bit, so click the appropriate button if you bought your computer in the last 5 years or so. However, if you’re not sure whether your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit, see Microsoft’s FAQ page for help.
Then, just run the installer and then follow the instructions to install Spacedesk on your computer. After the installation is complete, be sure to restart your computer for the new drivers to take effect.
Now that you’ve taken care of the Windows side of things, the next thing you need to do is install Spacedesk on your device.
With both programs installed, using Spacedesk is incredibly easy. First, make sure your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer, then open the Spacedesk app on your phone or tablet. The program should automatically detect your computer, so in most cases you just need to click “Connect” to get things started.

However, if your computer is not detected automatically, you must uncheck the box next to “Automatically search the Internet”, and then enter the computer’s local IP address manually. If you don’t know your local IP address, just visit this link and then copy the number at the top of the blue box. Once you’re done there, you can click “Login” to get things started.
Within seconds of clicking “connect” in the app, your computer will beep as if you’ve just plugged in new hardware. At about the same time, your Windows desktop will appear on your device, so you’ll see a complete, real-time replica of everything that’s happening on your computer.
If you want to use your device as a second desktop instead of mirroring your main screen, right-click on any empty space on the Windows desktop and then select Display Settings. From here, use the drop-down menu at the bottom of the window to select “Maximize these screens” and then click “Apply.” You can now multitask as if you had a true dual-screen setup, and each “desktop” can have its own set of open windows and programs.

If there is one sentence that stands together. How Microsoft sees the future of Windows is “mobile first, cloud first.” CEO Satya Nadella has used this phrase repeatedly when discussing the company’s products and focus. Now a new phone from HP shows exactly what that concept looks like when applied to mobile hardware.

HP’s Elite x3 is a Windows 10 smartphone launched this summer aimed at consumers. The company hopes that employees will use it as their only work device, replacing desktop computers or laptops. how? HP’s x3 is the first non-Microsoft smartphone to support Continuum, a new feature that allows the device to drive a desktop experience with a keyboard and mouse when connected to those devices via a dedicated docking station.
HP will also offer what it calls a “Mobile Extender,” which turns the x3 into a mobile device. The expansion comes with a 12.5 inch screen connected to the keyboard. There is no processor or storage inside as it uses the phone for all its computing needs. With the x3, HP’s goal is to make it easier for workers to carry their devices between home and office, as the portable extender is lighter than the average laptop. But the installation will still require workers to carry two devices – the handset and the laptop cover.
To serve as a laptop replacement, the x3 needs great battery life, and HP delivers. The device has a whopping 4,150 mAh battery, compared to the 2,750 mAh battery of the iPhone 6s Plus and the 3,000 mAh battery of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. For a phone its size – the 5.9-inch screen – the Elite x3 is quite light. Its matte finish makes the device durable and easy to hold. HP also says the phone is suitable for conference calls and video chat, thanks to an eight-megapixel front-facing camera and Bang & Olufsen speakers.
Although the idea of using only one device for work sounds appealing, Continuum is still in its infancy. Only a small number of apps are optimized to work with it, which can lead to a limited experience. Still, workers who do most of their work in Microsoft’s Office suite and web browsers may find phones with Continuum enough to get the job done.

Although made by HP, the Elite x3 heralds Microsoft’s new mobile strategy. The Windows Phone mobile operating system never took off, overshadowed by Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. But none of those operating systems can drive a desktop experience like Windows 10. That advantage should help Microsoft promote its latest operating system as a productivity tool. Still, it’s unclear whether that will be enough to convince users, or their companies, to adopt Windows on mobile.
